As a SANY dealer in Kansas City, we sell and service heavy equipment like excavators and SANY motor graders in Kansas City. Excavators are essential equipment for road construction, building construction, demolition, and anything else that requires small or large-scale earth moving. Excavators are uniquely designed to handle jobs like these quickly, efficiently, and with minimal exertion of human energy.

Kansas City SANY DealerImportant Parts of an Excavator

#1 – Bucket

Excavator buckets attach at the far end of the excavator arm and may be used to dig and relocate dirt, gravel, and other materials. Excavator buckets are detachable and multiple sizes and styles of buckets may be used on the same excavator.

#2 – Boom

An excavator boom is attached to the main body of the excavator and is raised and lowered during normal operation. The boom is raised and lowered using large hydraulic cylinders.

#3 – Arm

For the uninitiated, the entire boom and arm assembly appears to be the “arm” of the excavator. However, only the section between the bucket and the boom is appropriately identified as the arm. The arm pivots on the end of the boom and carries the bucket.

#4 – Hydraulic Cylinders

The digging/excavating function of an excavator is almost entirely dependent on powerful hydraulic cylinders that expand and contract to move the different sections of the excavator’s digging assembly.

#5 – Track and Track Frame

Once excavation has begun (and often before), the ground under and around the excavator becomes soft and relatively unstable. In these conditions, most wheel and tire assemblies would quickly become stuck in the dirt. Most excavators utilize tracks to move around the construction site without worrying about getting stuck.

#6 – Cab

Most modern excavators have fully enclosed cabs that allow the operator to stay safe and comfortable while working. Many excavator cabs also have air conditioning and heating that can be used to maintain a comfortable climate inside the cab. Despite how it may sound to some, climate-controlled cabs are not a luxury. They keep the operator in ideal conditions to work until the job is finished without risking their health unnecessarily.

#7 – Engine

Medium and large excavators typically have large diesel motors with anywhere from 100 to 400 horsepower. Speak to a Kansas City SANY dealer for more information about excavator capacity, engine size, and horsepower.

#8 – Counterweight

The boom, arm, and bucket assembly of an excavator is already extremely heavy before being loaded down with material. Once loaded, it becomes much heavier. Counterweights are used to maintain balance and prevent tipping.
